In my opinion, the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon is the best event of the year in Cleveland! I had the time of my life at last year’s half marathon, and I’m looking forward to another great half marathon this year at the 2014 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon.

Enjoying a well-deserved Subway sandwich with my buddy Nathan after the 2013 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon!

The event does a great job of showing off the city’s landmarks and most interesting neighborhoods, and the fact that so many neighborhoods do such a great job of welcoming and encouraging the runners is a testament to the great community spirit that is found throughout the city.

A great group of volunteers from Scranton Road Ministries CDC! Seeing my co-workers and friends around Mile 9 gave me a great boost and helped the remaining 4.1 miles fly by.

In addition to the fact that the race allows folks from all over America to see the neighborhoods and landmarks of the best city in America, I also love the Cleveland Marathon because it’s a celebration of the triumph of the human spirit. Each of the 20,000+ individuals who steps up to the starting line has a great story to tell about how they got there. Some runners have been running for many years and still keep trotting along just because they genuinely love running, while others will arrive with excitement and nervousness in their hearts and minds because they will be running their first race or a new distance. Others may have a few races under their belts and have come with hopes of setting a new personal best time. On their way to the starting line, every runner has invested countless hours in training and squeezed in cold, lonely training runs and workouts in the midst of busy schedules and competing life commitments. Being around my fellow runners inspires me to train hard, eat right, and stay focused, and I’m looking forward to soaking in the spectacle on May 18 and watching each and every runner celebrate their own personal victory.

Feeling great as I run along the final stretch down the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge at the 2013 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon!
